MBCT (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy)

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an approach that combines elements of meditation techniques with aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. The training focuses on preventing relapse in people who suffer from recurrent depression. MBCT concentrates on developing a different attitude towards problems. This attitude is characterized by accurate observation of thoughts and emotions, permitting them to be there, not responding to them in a “knee-jerk” way, and non-judgment.¬†¬†This¬†ultimately results in acceptance. It provides tools to clients in learning to deal with (chronic) symptoms and with lasting vulnerability. MBCT is a valuable addition to the repertoire of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and other forms of therapy.
